Coos Regional Trails Partnership Meeting: July 21, 2009
Attendees: Don Luce, Kim Griffin, Dave Gray
Approval of minutes of April 21 meeting: Minutes were approved.
Committee Reports:
South Coast Striders – Don Luce reported that South Coast Strider hikes continue to be well attended. Urban hikes are getting the best response. Hanging Rock and Panther Ridge Trail hike had 41 attendees ( 30 short hike and 11 long hike) The long hike will be reduced in the future and Coquille Falls added at the end of the day to make it work out better logistically. Walkable Coos Bay was a success with 75 in attendance. The added support from the Historical and Maritime Museum staff made it much better than previous “self guided” programs. Cherry Creek Old Growth and China Wall received 41 attendees. Only 11 went on the bonus hike. Eel Lake hike did not receive the huge attendance like last year but still good. There were 50 people in attendance. Next hike is Bandon Historical hike led by Reg Pullen.
Urban Trail - Don Luce reported that he had collected information on existing trails in Coquille and Bandon. He has contact with local walking advocates in both towns but plans to start working on Coquille during the fall and winter and produce a similar map to the one produced for Coos Bay and North Bend. He has support from Coos County Women’s Health Coalition on this project.
Don and Kim are attending meetings of the Sawmill Tribal Trail Advisory Committee. This project to develop a trail from Ferry Park in North Bend to the Hollering Place boat ramp in Empire will be supported through our Urban Trails subcommittee.
