March Minutes Old Business Report on discussion with OCEAN – John B. The meeting group discussed: 1. The development of a new trail across Coos Head starting from OIMB to the tribal property and down to Basendorf beach. OCEAN would like to work with CRTP to accomplish this project. 2. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between OCEAN and CRTP. The MOU is out of date and needs to be revisited. Some questions are: should CRTP still have the MOU, whether CRTP should collaborate with OCEAN and in what fashion, and what OCEAN provides to CRTP? It was decided that a working group would be formed to look at this issue with two people from OCEAN and two people/or more from CRTP to come up with something. John Bragg and Dave Wash will be part of the working group and will also ask Reg Pullen if he would like to be a part of it. Mike Smith said that OCEAN can get everything it needs from CRTP by being a member. The main issue with that is time and what objective is involved. Bob Golden said that OCEAN was needed to administer grants such as the project to create the water trails map. Don Luce said in regards to the relationship with OCEAN, getting a 501c3 is a lengthy process and having this affiliation with OCEAN represents an avenue to have them administer grants. Donna Bishop said in regards to recreation that also involves horseback riders, CRTP can use Oregon Equestrian Trails as a grant administrator. OCEAN emphasis is on education on nature which fits with CRTP’s mission well. South Coast Striders update – Publicity Zoe Sweet is the point person now for publicity for the South Coast Striders. She will be collaborating on this with the Bay Area Hospital and putting together flyers, formerly done by John Bragg (thanks John!), notifying chambers, newspapers, writing articles, and letting other hospitals know what is happening as well. Thank you Zoe for all of your efforts. Zoe also put together a business card with information. Another hiking group has started in Coquille and is partnering with the Coquille Valley Hospital. Don Luce – requested switching the Floras Lake Hike to August with the North Spit hike to be scheduled in July. He’ll check with Dave Wash and the BLM on this and will let Tom Sill know about it so he can update the website and the rest of us. New Business Formation of multiple use trail maintenance and development committee – Mike Smith Mike Smith suggested the creation of this committee to be made up of trail users. This group will set down what will happen for the next 8 or 9 years, open areas, and where trails are not going to be disturbed starting with Winchester Trails and then move on to Blue Ridge. The committee will put together a proposal for Winchester and show it to the attorney and once it’s approved and ready to be presented to the commissioners they will bring it to the rest of CRTP. People interested in being on this committee should contact Mike Smith. Mike also suggested that the South Coast Striders form a committee as well. Adjourn |
