 Review of Minutes

The minutes were approved with one change, putting Don’s name instead of Carl. The motion to approve was raised by Mike Smith and seconded by John Bragg.

Old business

1)      Review of North Spit healthy hike – the hike went well and the weather cooperated. They had a long hike and a short hike, Bob Golden led the short hike and Dave Wash led the long hike. Tom Sill took some photos which he will update on the website.  Tom also added a page dedicated to the South Coast Strider group. He will publish a list of upcoming hikes, articles that Karen and Zoe published in the Coquille Sentinel about the Blue Ridge and Coos Bay Boardwalk hikes.  Karen and Zoe said they would send Tom a copy of the articles.

2)      Winchester Trail status (fire season closures) – John Bragg got a call from Bob LaPort who said the fire closures have been lifted on Winchester trails.

3)      Report on BLM public comments on North Spit plan update – Nancy Zepf is in charge. The BLM had a public meeting, which they hired a facilitator to run. Forty people showed up and they received a lot of public comments and are using them to fine tune the plan.  John Bragg will get an update from Nancy and will feed it back at the next meeting.

New business

1)      Review list of proposed healthy hikes – JB – Lake Marie (add hike). One person mentioned that we need to put that there are not pets on hikes as some people are coming with pets. It was suggested that the group schedule one special hike with pets. Miranda agreed to call Frann Grossman about pet hike logistics. Empire Lakes could be a good pet hike or Whiskey Run. The group decided if people show up with pets and it’s not a problem then let it be.

2)      Consider additional Suggestions – John Bragg agreed to talk to Robin Giss and Jennifer Groh about leading another hike.

3)      Guidelines for 2006 hiking season

a.       It was agreed that a short hike will be 1-3 miles and a long hike will be 4-6 miles.
