Oregon Coast Trail

Sunset Bay to Shore Acres - 4 mile w/Geologist

Sunset Bay to Arago Pt - 8 mile round trip

Sunset Bay State Park.  Next to group gazebo across from campground entrance.

Feb 23

North Spit Dune Trail

Bay to New Carissa and return 4.2 mile round trip.

Bay side to New Carissa then mystery wreck - 8 mile round trip

From North Bend, drive north across McCullough Bridge.  Turn left (west) at the Horsfall Dune Beach sign. TransPacific Pkwy  4 miles to the BLM boat ramp parking.

Mar 29

Eel Lake

2 miles along lake and return for 4 mile round trip.

Continue to trails end for 6 mile round trip.

From Coos Bay Visitor Center go 18 mi. N on Hwy 101 to Tugman State Park on your right.  Park at Eel Lake day use area. 

Apr 26

Rocky Peak

2 mile along ridge and meadows below Rocky  Peak and 1 mile optional hike along Brushy Creek. 

Difficult 2.2 miles with 1280 elevation gain to 3029ft. Rocky Peak and return for 4.4 mile round trip.

8:00am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center or 9:30am leave Battle Rock Visitor Center in Port Orford then caravan to trailhead.

May 10

Bandon Beaches

 Coquille Point tide pooling 1.5 mi. with interpreter.

Continue S to Johnson Creek and back 4.5 mi.

Meet at Coquille Point in Bandon.  From Hwy 101 turn W on 11St S.W and travel 1 mile to parking area.

May 31

Euphoria Ridge

3 mile hike with Don Ivy of the Coquille Tribe. *Limit 30-call Don Luce 266-8201 to register. Leaves Bridge Store at 9:30am

6 miles one way with shuttle.

Leaves Bridge Store at 9:00am.

Take Hwy 42 through Coquille and Myrtle Point to town of Bridge. Bridge Store is 10 miles E. of Myrtle Point.

We caravan from the Bridge Store at 9:00 and 9:30am.

June 14

Cape Blanco

3.5 miles easy/moderate Hughes House to Castle Rock along beach, over headland then return.

7 miles moderate/difficult continue along S. Cape Trail to S. Beach and return.

8:30 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center or 9:15 am leave Ray’s Grocery in Bandon or travel Hwy 101- 46 miles S of Coos Bay to Cape Blanco State Park. Park beyond Hughes House by Sixes river.

June 28

Blue Ridge Trails

2 miles easy to moderate

5 miles moderate

9:15 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center - caravan to trailhead.

July 12

Cherry Creek

Old Growth

2.5 miles moderate to difficult  walk through old growth forest

1 mile hike off-trail to creek and back (limit 8)

9:15 am leave Coquille Visitor Center – caravan to trailhead.

July 26

South Slough

3 -3.5 miles moderate interpretive hike with Joy Tally of South Slough.

Following Joy’s hike and lunch break Don Luce will lead a 3 mile hike to bottom of North Trail and back. Rated moderate.

South Slough Visitor Center – From Hwy 101 in Coos Bay follow signs to Charleston/State Parks/Ocean Beaches. Continue through Charleston. Turn left on Seven Devils Rd and continue 4 miles to South Slough Reserve on your left.

Aug 16

Blacklock Point

Floras Lake

4 mile round trip going south along beach from Floras Lake with Don Luce

8 mile trip to Blacklock point and return with Reg Pullen

8:45 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center and caravan to Boice-Cope County Park - Floras Lake.  Take Hwy 101 1/2 mile south of Langlois then follow the signs.

Aug 30

Dellenback Dunes          

2.5 mile loop trail with short trip onto dunes led by Dell Willis

 

8 miles - Dellenback Dune Trail to beach then return near mouth 10 Mile creek.

9:15 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center or meet at Dellenback Dunes Trailhead 10.5 miles S of Reedsport on Hwy 101.

Sept 13

N Fork Smith River /

Kentucky Falls

4 mile round trip to 100 foot twin falls at Kentucky Falls and back.

7-8 miles Kentucky Falls to Smith River trailhead. Cancelled due to landslide

8 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center or 8:45 am leave Reedsport Visitor Center then caravan to Kentucky Falls Trailhead.

Sept 27

North Spit -Public Lands Day

Let’s give something back!

9:00am – 2:00pm

Tools, gloves and lunch provided by the BLM.

Volunteer crews will clear fences around old WWII bunkers, clean up litter and remove noxious weeds.

9:00am - From North Bend, drive north across McCullough Bridge.  Turn left (west) at the Horsfall Dune Beach sign.  Follow the TransPacific Parkway 4 miles to the BLM parking area.

Tahkenitch Creek & Dunes

2.5 mile interpretive loop from Tahkenitch Creek trailhead

6 - 7 mile loop combining Tahkenitch Dunes and 3 Mile Lake trails.

9:00 am leave Coos Bay Visitor Center or meet at

Tahkenitch Crk. Trailhead 9 miles N of Reedsport near milepost 204

Oct 25

Golden and Silver Falls

3 miles moderate hike to upper falls and back with local history.

6 miles moderate hike to upper falls and homesteads above the falls.

We will meet and caravan from lot across from Coach House restaurant in Eastside at 9:15am

Nov 29

Empire Lakes

 

1.5 mile paved route easy with interpreter.

3.5 mi loop around both lakes and college. Moderate route.

From Hwy 101 in Coos Bay go W. on Newmark Ave. past Wal-Mart.

Turn right on Hull St. and follow signs to lake.

Dec 27

Arago Pack & Oregon Coast Trail

2.5 miles one way. * need to set up shuttle return from trails end ¼ mile S of Shore Acres.

5 miles combining Arago Pack trail and Oregon coast trail

From US 101 in Coos Bay, follow signs to Charleston and Ocean Beaches.  Continue through Charleston on Cape Arago Highway until you reach the end and start to loop back.  Park at the trailhead near the group picnic area.
