Continue south on US 101 approximately one mile and watch for signs to
Floras Lake/Boice-Cope County Park. Turn
right (west) on Floras Loop Road and follow signs to Floras Lake entrance
and continue to parking lot/boat ramp where trailhead is located.
Setting and Attractions: Floras Lake is a premier windsurfing spot on the
coast. It’s also popular
for kayaks and kite flyers. The
lake is 25 square miles and at the lakeside Curry County operates a
campground. From the day-use
area at Floras Lake there are easy trails leading to the beach.
Walking access is to some areas and parts of the beach are
restricted for protection of snowy plover habitat from March 15 to
September 15. North and South Beach Trails: The north trail access to the beach heads straight out from a bridge next to the boat ramp for a quarter mile to the beach. It’s possible to continue walk north along the beach for several miles. The trail south along Floras Lake takes you to South Beach which offers a short walk along the beach, ending at the impressive headland cliffs. Cape Blanco (Sixes) Airport Trail: From South Beach you can connect with this trail leading to the Cape Blanco Airport along a dirt road which is great for mountain bikes.
